These vehicles were marketed as “the world’s cleanest and most advanced diesel,” boasting “ultra-low emissions, high fuel economy and responsive performance,” and claiming to emit “up to 30% lower greenhouse-gas emissions than gasoline.”

While diesel engines typically offer greater torque, improved low-end power, better drivability, and higher fuel efficiency compared to gasoline engines, they also tend to produce significantly more harmful emissions. Despite Mercedes’ claims of producing “clean diesels,” investigations revealed that its BlueTEC Diesel vehicles emitted pollutants at levels far higher than their gasoline-powered counterparts—contradicting the company’s marketing and raising serious concerns about consumer deception and environmental harm.
